The Joy Menu is a newsletter.
Introducing The Joy Menu, a narrative newsletter exploring how creativity helps us live more meaningful lives.
The Joy Menu is:
- an essay cycle masquerading as a newsletter.
- a newsletter masquerading as a series of Sunday memories.
- stories about my father masquerading as stories about myself.
- or viceversa.
- questions gifted by my father to me about art-making and artist-being.
- poems without line breaks.
- transcripts of stories told across three (3) generations and 3 (three) continents.
- whatever comes out when I sit down to write.
- just some emails.
In 2018, my father died. He’d been sick for 17 months. When my siblings turned to me and said, “You’re the writer; write the obituary,” I had no idea what to write.
Four years later, I’m still writing.
I hope it makes sense to you—or barring that, makes you cry.
Thanks for reading. I’d be chuffed if you shared it with a friend (or 3).
