What comes from grief?
Introducing The Joy Menu, a narrative newsletter exploring death, loss, grief, art, and creativity.
The Joy Menu is:
an essay cycle masquerading as a newsletter.
a newsletter masquerading as a series of Sunday memories.
stories about my father masquerading as stories about myself.
or viceversa.
questions gifted by my father to me about art-making and artist-being.
poems without line breaks.
transcripts of stories told across three (3) generations and 3 (three) continents.
whatever comes out when I sit down on Sundays to write.
just some emails.
In 2018, my father died. He’d been sick for 17 months. When my siblings turned to me and said, “You’re the writer; write the obituary,” I had no idea what to write.
Four years later, I’m still writing.
I hope it makes sense to you—or barring that, makes you cry.
Thanks for reading. I’d be chuffed if you shared it with a friend (or 3).
